As with the geographic names, there are a lot of examples when people who use standard Soviet orthography spell place names differently from those who write in the classical orthography. Here are just a few examples: Classical -- Soviet Менск -- Мінск Берасьце -- Брэст Горадня -- Гродна Маладэчна -- Маладзечна Талачын -- Талочын It’s because when we say “classical orthography” (клясычны правапіс) we actually misuse the term, because the differences between the two systems are not purely orthographic.
