I actually think of it as a lesson: don't get bothered by irrelevant details (like that crow), focus on the survival and stay alert. And the way they casted that role (definetely not a superhero type) I already felt pretty sure from the start that he'd be one of the first victims. ;) Yea, of course, I remember that scene. Like the scene where the dead guy is suspended in the air for some reason and one of the survivors looks up and blood drops into his eye? I hated that scene.
