“Deutsche Welle” revisited
This week Belarusian Culture and Education Center in Poznan (Poland) started collecting signatures against Russian language broadcasts of “Deutsche Welle” to Belarus…
To the credit of “Deutsche Welle”, though, it must be said that two weeks ago their Belarusan page has became bilingual: in addition to Russian, about 30-50% of their materials are being published in Belarusian language now. The broadcasting language is still Russian. And their Belarusian is not that cool either (Soviet orthography and in need of a good style editor). But, still, I would say it’s a small but important victory for all those who protested against German-sponsored Russification of Belarus. It’s possible to win against “White Holland”, after all.
I’m not a radio listener, so from my perspective as an internet guy I consider my task accomplished (we made them bilingual, at least on the internet). I was planning to make a special website about this, but now I guess I don’t have to do that. Or do I?

Btw, I forwarded a link to this entry to DW, and I even got an answer from one of the Russian journalists responsible for those “Belarusian chronicles”:

Unfortunately we lack of financial means to open a decent Belarussian service. We will, however, publish as much information as possible in Belarussian on our website.
