KGB chief is ready

Alaksandr Lukashenka will probably sign the amendments to the Criminal code today, on December 12, or tomorrow. Then on December 20 (wihch is still marked as the Day of KGB in the Belarusan calendars) the law will be enacted, and it looks like KGB will start prosecuting people immediately starting on that date. That’s what KGB chief Sciapan Sukharenka said himself:

“Some of these amendments were included for the specific persons. You’ll learn about it soon. Wait for the first criminal cases [to be opened] on December 20. KGB has all the evidence. About two-three thousand youngsters got under the influence of our enemies who try to destabilize situation in Belarus.”

The KGB chairman also added that “the law was implemented in order to avoid events that took place in Ukraine and Georgia.”

I was thinking about going to Belarus for New Year’s, but now I’m having serious doubts. Of course, the probability of me being harrassed or arrested is probably quite low, maybe, like 1%. But still, it’s a possibility.
