Gazprom and Schroeder cartoon
It seems Russians screwed up yet again. They are going to sell gas to themselves for $230, while Ukraine is going to get it for $95 per 1000 cubic meters. That obscure Austrian-Russian intermediate company is created by “Gazprom” just to safe face. It’s funny to observe the Russian blogosphere and see how many Nazi Russians really bought it.
Yulia Tymoshenko is quite critical though:
“You can consider the (gas) agreement signed by Ukrainian officials successful only if you had too much to drink on New Year’s Eve. Any person who has professional understanding of these issues can clearly see that it is simply unprofessional, if not stupid… In reality, what stands behind this is a banal big model of corruption which is called RosUkrEnergo. And all this noise was raised in order to give the monopolistic right to supply gas to Ukraine for many years ahead to RosUkrEnergo, a shady structure that doesn’t even have a proper statute capital.”
And here’s an amusing Schroeder cartoon from a Russian magazine:
1) I wonder whether “gas” is spelled as “gaz” on purpose, to indicate that this is a Russian gas (the Russian word is spelled with “z” at the end), or it’s just a sign that Russian cartoonist needs to brush up his English skills.
2) The European waitress in EU-apron looks a bit like Hillary Clinton. Is there a hidden message here?
3) The two Cyrillic inscriptions are “Газпром” (”Gazprom”) on the pipe, and one of the protesters outside is holding a poster “Геть!” (Het’!) which means “Go away!” in Ukrainian.

Вважати угоду, яка підписана чиновниками, з боку України успішною можна тільки з великого перепою після Нового року. Тому що, знаєте, просто будь-яка людина, яка розуміється професійно на цих питаннях, абсолютно чітко може зробити висновок, що це просто – якщо не сказати тупість, то можна сказати непрофесійність. (Щодо Ющенка) Я вважаю, що весь галас, весь крик, який був створений навколо газової проблеми, був створений навмисно для того, щоб потім, прикриваючись рятувальною функцією «РосУкрЕнерго», передати незрозумілій структурі. Статутний фонд «РосУкрЕнерго», щоб ви розуміли, - десь 35 тисяч доларів. Чим ця структура буде відповідати перед Україною за стабільне й гарантоване постачання природнього газу? Це є абсурдом, і ми відійшли зараз – «Нафтогаз» відійшов – від прямих контрактів з РАО «Газпром», від прямих контрактів з Узбекистаном, Казахстаном, Туркменістаном. Де гарантією постачання газу були міжурядові угоди, або угоди між державними підприємствами, які займаються або видобутком, або транспортуванням газу. Там були гарантії забезпечення всіх угод і власністю, і наявністю ресурсів. Від цього перейшли до структури, яка нічим не може гарантувати постачання газу в Україну – це «РосУкрЕнерго». Крім, можливо, гарантій певних осіб, яких розшукує весь світ, в тому числі через силові структури західних країн.”

This is a full original quote from Tymoshenko’s press conference where she bashes Yushchenko and the gas deal, staring from “You can consider the (gas) agreement signed by Ukrainian officials successful only if you had too much to drink on New Year’s Eve…” ;).
I frankly think she might be exaggerating. She is probably using this rhetoric just to get more votes in March parliamentary elections.
