Cool Ice Hockey Video
For all the NHL and hockey fans in my audience:
The biggest success of Belarus ice hockey national team came in Salt Lake City at the Olympic Games (2002) when they beat Sweden 4:3 in quater final and reached semis. The game was pretty tough, and the score was tied at 3:3 just two and a half minutes before the end, and then miraculously Belarus scored this strange, cool and funny goal. I read in the newspapers that Swedish goalkeeper Salo is still blushing every time they remind him about that goal:

That’s really funny, where did you find that video clip? That song (”It slides in…”) was composed specially for those Olympics if I remember correctly, and I believe the singing is actually performed by the members of the Swedish team themselves.
Along with the referendum and elections in 2004, the presidential elections in 2001, and the parliamentary elections in 2000, that game in 2002 was one of the few times in later years when Belarus received some notable attention from our national mass media. I rembember that the radio called and asked me who in Minsk could give them a comment, and I suggested Björn Halvarsson, a Swede who worked at the local UNDP office at that time. They made a really nice piece with Björn’s dryish comments about what a big hockey fan Lukashenko is and how he was building ice palaces all over the country. They also had someone from BDG telling about how Belarusians enjoyed this victory, and they sent the extatic cry of some Belarusian sport commentator as that goal was scored.
Myself, I had had a big debate article about the situation in Belarus waiting for publication in the newspaper Aftonbladet for a couple of months already, while the editor was waiting for some reason to publish it. The second day after the game, I think it was, he gave it a whole page.
That whole thing was really quite big for Sweden.

Ouch lol that must hurt… those things are like a brick lol :) Sadly enough.. none of it ever reached the air here :( Got a question, to my understanding… the sole reason that hockey is being played as a national sport in Belarus nowadays is due to it being luka’s favorite sports. Is this true? I mean… seems badly selfish for one person to tell others what sports to like or not to like… also raises the question of what sports Belarusian people do like. One friend is mad on football, that much I know.
