New Palm Z22

I have long ago given up on my paper organizer, and finally I’ve bought two palm PDA’s for myself and my wife. It’s a cute (see photo), simple and cheap model. Unfortunately, it is much cheaper in the U.S. than in Europe. I bought it for about $140 each, and in the States you could get it for $99. Actually, Amazon offers this model for $92 right now. But what can I do, I’d tried to order it via Amazon, but I got an error message: “Sorry, we don’t ship this type of merchandise to your location.”
It’s a rather simple toy, but I don’t need anything more fancy than that. I probably will be using it mainly for three types of tasks: short memos, calendar/todo, and reading ebooks. I don’t know whether there are palm experts among my blog readers, but I already have some questions:
1) Do you know of any cool sites with free ebooks and free software for Palm OS? I’ve already downloaded a bunch of classical books from the University of Virginia electronic library, but haven’t found anything else equally cool).
2) Is there a good converter from DOC/HTML/TXT formats into PDB eBook file format? (I’ve found some MS Word macros, but it sort of sucks.)
3) Can this model understand Cyrillic characters? (I have Palm OS 5.4). Big thanx in advance for any help!

You can look here for Palm OS freeware:

I found a software program for cyrillic, but it’s $20:

Or you could try this, but I don’t know anything about it:

As for free eBooks, are you familiar with the Gutenberg Project? They have an extensive free digital library: http://www.gutenberg.org/

I have some e-book links for books on my blog. I have also blogmarked you, will gather up as many of the best as I can think of and stop back with the information. I got a pocket pc a little over a year ago, primarily for reading e-books and I’ve been compiling places that have a good selection and offer them for free. You may need to download alternate ebook readers to get the most of what’s available. I’ll be back.

I would suggest PalmFiction reader, it is free, and it can read most formats directly, including DOC, TXT and ZTXT. Also it is nice as a reader.
For cyrillic support I use PiLoc software, it costs about $12.
For russian-language e-books look at www.lib.ru. Free english texts are available at project Gutenberg.

[…] I think I started reading a bit more again, when I bought a handheld, a palm pilot (Palm Z22) and downloaded several hundred ebooks via P2P networks and free websites. And, lately, I’ve been thinking that life is too short to waste this amazing human capacity to decipher rows and pages of symbols into concrete knowledge, imagery, ideas. […]
