Milinkevich, EU, and Moscow

Ze German media is still silent about Milinkevich. But I’ve finally found a photo from Angela Merkel’s meeting with him. The photo is taken in a building opposite of the Bundestag. I don’t even remember what’s there. Is it the Bundeskanzlerin’s office?

And here are two more photos from his EU meetings:

Alexander Milinkevich and the President of the European Commission, Manuel Barroso

Alexander Milinkevich and Xavier Solana

Milinkevich’s European tour is now over, and today he had a one-day visit to Moscow. Of course in Moscow he didn’t meet with any high-ranking Kremlin officials, only with some Russian opposition and minor politicians. Russia openly supports and sponsors our dictatorial ruler, Alexander Lukashenka.

What is even more disturbing is that vice prime minister and minister of defense of Russia Sergey Ivanov said yesterday that:

“We [Russia] consider the possibility of an unrest after the presidential elections in Belarus as a very negative thing. We consider it necessary to do everything possible so that this does not happen.”

That’s a very bold statement from a minister of defense. And it provides yet another proof that Russian imperialism is gaining momentum.

Heh, looks like German topic is one of your favorites. But the piece of news, which sort of got me down yesterday, was this. Maybe I was too naive to think that Kazulin would weigh in everything and cede, or I was driven to faulty assumptions by the literati and personal friends in Belarusian social-democratic youth NGOs who backed him. So generally, I thought that even if he was supported by some Russian capital, tycoons, whoever else, but I didn’t quite believe he would be too stubborn to negotiate. All his present rhetoric is just outright saddening - he won’t yield.

    and by the way…

you are right - it is the “Bundeskanzleramt” in front of the “Paul-Löbe-Haus” (Block of Offices for the Members of the Bundestag) and the “Reichstag”.

Fjodov: Just search news.yandex.ru for keywords like “Сергей Иванов Белоруссия Мюнхен”:

В случае беспорядков, подобных тем, что были в других государствах СНГ, Москва не будет молчать. Будем реагировать отрицательно, но должны сделать все, чтобы этого не было, – подчеркнул Иванов.

And some commentary about this statement:
