And all this sport…

The next week promises to be very busy and hectic (but hopefully, fun). Instead of sorting out papers and preparing some documents I’m watching Olympics on Eurosport, glancing at the live tennis scores on DavisCup.com and blocking all thoughts about the upcoming week.

1) In Davis Cup 1/8 finals, Belarus tennis team impressed everybody in Minsk by beating 2004 champion Spain 4:1. My colleague joked that if they could bring this specially prepared “Taralex” court from Minsk to other locations, Belarus would’ve already won all the Grand slams.

2) In another kind of sport (the contest of female beauty), a Belarus’ girl won the top prize as the Supermodel of the World. It happened several weeks ago, but somehow I missed it. Katsia, a Belarusian high school girl, won the Supermodel title and a $250,000 modelling contract in New York. I’ve found a blog entry from a Minsk blogger who studies in the same high school with her. He claims that guys used to freeze and gaze at her, totally mesmerized, when she passed through the corridors during breaks.

The girl is called Katsia Damankova, according to that Minsk blogger and some Belarusian news sites, but in the Western media journalists often spelled her name as Katsia Damenkova. There’s a nice story about her on FOX News.
