Czech foreign police

Last week I was invited to a workshop in Ukraine, to teach a two-day class about internet, blogging, web publishing and CMS systems to a small class of Belarusian NGO activists. This sounded like a great opportunity! I would’ve loved to share whatever knowledge I have about WWW publishing with my fellow countrymen, and even get some money for that.

Unfortunately, I could not make it because of the Czech foreign police. They keep changing the rules, and they keep picking on small, irrelavant things, and they treat a foreigner like a stinky Untermensch.

First, they didn’t like my wife’s birth certificate. She had to request some documents via DHL. Then she spent several days going to the embassy and then to the foreign police, until they finally accepted her papers. Now they didn’t like our housing contract. And again, this vicious circle started (you need this paper, you need that paper notarized, etc., etc.), and we definetely won’t have Czech visas for another two weeks, at least.

So we are stuck here in Czech Republic since mid-January, not able to visit any other countries, because our Czech visas have expired and we are waiting for an extension.

Do you think they are they holding you because of you have a Belarusian passport?

beinghad: It’s hard to say. Probably not. It just looks like they really tightened the rules on January 1, 2006, and changed many procedures without properly informing anyone.

Probably has something to do with all this “terrorist” stuff… that it made things more complicated… bureaucracy has never been different in my opinion… I forsee in the future that people around the word need to fill out forms in threefold just to go to the toilet lol… honestly don’t know about the “untermensch” thing, Ive been to prague and all Czech people there were really nice to us. Do hope you will receive your visas soon.
