An American whore-hunter in Slutsk

Slutsk (Słucak) is a town where the biggest anti-Russian, anti-Soviet uprising took place in 1918. But if you go there now, you wouldn’t find a single mention of that. Slutsk is an old town, first mentioned in 1116, and in 1160 it became the capital of its own principality. In the 17th century the town became famous all over Eastern and Central Europe for its manufactories of kontusz belts, some of the most expensive and luxurious piece of garment for the nobles. For centuries it had a strong Jewish presence…

An American tourist has written a blog entry about how he traveled from Russia to a Belarusan city of Slutsk in 2003 just to find and screw some sluts. It’s an idiotic report of an American macho who is hunting for whores and is proud of his quest. (And just to give you an idea of his “expertise”: he claims to speak fluent Russian, yet he misspells every single Russian word in that article: “V Dalee ot Zhyon” should’ve been “vdali ot zhon”, “Medvedovskaya” should’ve been “medvezhja”, etc.)

Nevertheless, I thought it was quite educational, to see Slutsk from a perspective of such a tourist:

Endrus: Did you also notice that on every page of their website they put a link to the Russian Nazional-Bolshevik party website (that’s a party that took the worst from the Nazis, Bolsheviks and Russian imperialists and combined them all together)? And, look, what they say on the about page:

“In 1999, the authors released a book, The eXile: Sex, Drugs, and Libel in the New Russia telling the story of the newspaper and the late-Yeltsin era that spawned it. Edward Limonov, the avant-garde writer and radical politician, wrote the forward (sic!) for the book, and has been a regular contributor (when he’s not serving time in jail).”

Frankly, I’m not surprised. There’s so much waste in the blogosphere…

    Hi,
I accidently came accross your blog, and i wanted to thank you for publishing all of this.
I was born in Slutsk and my family immigrated to US some number of yrs ago. Since then i have not been back and lost touch with my school friends as well.
It is sad to see what is happening to Belarus and what someone wrote about my home town, Slutsk. Although it is little and not well known, it has a rich history and more over my childhood memories.

In any case, thanks again for doing this, not too many ppl would.
