KGB && Reuters Bias
A few days ago Belarusian KGB arrested four NGO activists from Partnerstva. This is a peaceful, small NGO that carried out exit polls during previous presidential elections in 2001, and these days they were not even active. All four young men have little babies. Last week KGB agents broke into their apartments and their offices and arrested all of them. KGB spooks searched their flats for many hours, confiscated all the computers, and then they supposedly uncovered “fake exit polls” for 2006 elections. So finally, today, the Belarusian KGB chief Sucharenka (Sukhorenko) said that those young people were planing a coup d’etat (!!!). Reuters reports:
“Opposition leaders were planning to set off an explosion at one of their own protests after the election, and then blame the authorities for the resulting bloodshed. After that (they will) start seizing official buildings and stations and blocking railway lines with the aim of completely paralyzing the functioning of the state.”
This is nonsense. That is a damaging and dangerous libel from KGB. And this is the dirty work that Belarusian KGB has enjoyed doing so much in the past. They did it in 2001, they are doing it again, uncovering some “secret revolution” plans once again.
What surprised me most is Reuters‘ coverage. They published an article about it, as if it were all true, presenting a one-sided biased story, quoting only the KGB version of this “coup d’etat” fairy tale.
Belarusian opposition immediately and vehemently denied those lunatic KGB accusations, but Reuters claims:
“There was no immediate response from the opposition to Sukhorenko’s allegations.”
Why didn’t they write, “our Minsk correspondent didn’t bother to give a couple phone calls to opposition politicians?”
And now this biased Reuter’s piece is being reprinted all over the world. Last time I checked Google News, more than 20 newspapers and internet media sites world-wide have already reprinted the story, including ABC, Yahoo News, Washington Post and many others.
Meanwhile those four people are in KGB jail and they might stay there for several years. But Reuters forgot to write about that.

All thumbs up for this post! You are doing a great job!
The only discrepancy I need to note is that Partnership is not a small NGO. It boasts an impressive membership throughout the country - their primary goal is election monitoring, they can’t do it without people. I can elaborate more but I’m afraid to harm those guys, my acquaintances, who are in KGB jail.

But we can sure talk about it by e-mail or via Skype - search e-ndrus.

‘All four young men have little babies.’ And cute little puppies if I may add!

Lalulu: Sorry, but I don’t appreciate your irony. I only meant that if they were planning a coup d’etat they probably wouldn’t have impregnated their wives 9 or so months ago. ;)
Have you been to a Belarusan jail?

Maybe the condoms slipped? Lukashenko’s economy cannot provide its citizens with Trojans. Yes, in fact I have been to Belarusan jail - free board, free food, puppy playtime in the afternoon, fingerpainting classes at night.
Oh Endurs please don’t spill your secrets! KGB reads your blog! I wouldn’t want you end up hanging on a lamp post

Lalulu, if talking about “slipping condoms” is your normal level of discussion, then I wouldn’t want to see any more of your comments in this blog.

Ok ‘Administrator’ if you want to talk about ‘little babies’ then I got news for you, popJack: They dont have ‘little babies’ in Belarusa, hence, declining demography.
