Last night I took part in a talk show on Radio Open Source. That was my first radio appearance in a foreign language (English). I sort of hate my East Slavic accent, but I’ve always been too lazy to work on phonetics. Well, I hope people could understand what I was saying. (mp3)
Doctor David Marples, a well-known Western expert on Belarus history and politics, the author of Belarus: A Denationalized Nation , also took part in that talk show. He was brilliant.

I’m listening right now and I don’t think you need to worry about your accent! It’s very interesting hearing yours and Marples’ words. I’ve read Marples’ work too and it’s nice to hear a foreigner with such interest and knowledge about Belarus.

Very good program, I learned a lot from it.
I would add to the crimes of Lukashenko the religious persecution suffered by the Belarussian people in the past several years, the most recent example being the ten day imprisonment of Pastor Georgi Viazovski of Christ Covenant Baptist Church in Minsk. This action is believed to be the first of its kind in almost twenty years.
I hope and pray that one day freedom will ring loudly in Belarus.

You came across very clearly, Vlad, your English is excellent.
Belarus has a new hero. His name is Milinkevich. Whatever the outcome of the protests, and I doubt that a change of regime will occur at this time, there is no question that Lukashenka’s administration has been shaken. Paradoxically, by advancing the date of the elections, Lukashenka neglected to consider the forthcoming 25 March commemoration. I am sure everyone will stay in the square until then, and that the number of protesters will be the highest on Saturday.
