Web Server Down; Arrests Continue
Just after that peaceful protest was brutally broken up by the police, my web server suddenly went down. I’m investigating with the hoster whether it was a DDOS attack or just a regular malfunction (my California-based hoster had several days of downtime in the last several months due to technical problems). Usually though, downtime is not more than several hours, but this time my website was down the whole Sunday. This is suspicious.
More than 1,000 (one thousand!) arrested are still in jail in Minsk. Actually, the jails are full. So they send them to other places, to prisons in small towns near Minsk, such as Navinki and Zhodzina. All of these people are kept in jail for taking part in a peaceful protest.
Today, the courts are working non-stop like a fast food chain. Most of the detained people get 15 days of administrative arrest for “participating in an unsanctioned meeting.”
Among those sentenced already I counted four of my friends (very good people and active bloggers).
Probably there are many more of my friends and acquaitances there. It’s just courts don’t reveal any information (though they are required by law to publish the lists with last names, they don’t do it for the political prisoners).
More later, if the server is up.
P.S. By the way, Belarus at TOL Blogs has become much more active these days.
