Spiegel && Belarus
In order to refresh my (rather mediocre) German reading skills I stopped by the library today and browsed through the last several issues of the biggest German weekly magazine “Spiegel“. I’ve noticed that my vocab has shrunk: I encounter many vaguely familiar words that I can’t quite remember anymore.
By the way, Belarus’ presidential elections, mass protests and brutal arrests in Minsk got quite a coverage in the most popular and influential German magazine — about 3/4 of a single page in total in the last five issues (“Bedrohter Frühling“).
What can I say to that? Hallo, White Holland?

Well considering hundreds of people got arrested and beat up… they have yes, but disgust still flourishes. I’m with Milinkevich’ view on the protests, they gave the people a sparkle of hope that something CAN be done. Nobody would have thought that so many people would be able to protest for 5 days straight in a country that brutally slams down any form of protesting. I wonder what’s in store this weekend…
