Bill Clinton. My Life
Today, I started listening to a 6-hour long mp3 recording with the audio book Bill Clinton. My Life read by the author himself. It totally absorbed my attention. No matter what some Americans say, Clinton is an amazing personality, a brilliant politician (notwithstanding some problems), a really smart man. Such a striking contrast to the current president…

I rented it on CD a few months ago. Loved it, although the audio version is an abridged version, it was worth the rental.

Every time I come to Barnes and Noble I end up flipping it through. I guess I’m a buy it.
Good point in the last sentence, imho.

Yes, Bill Clinton is a celebrity. I miss his compassion, his elegance. If he had been in office during 9/11, we would have heard more from him in seconds, rather than Bush, who waited and waited and waited to say anything while the nation mourned. Thanks for the insight from abroad! Your posts are welcome……..

Yes… I think most people want Bill back. Sure he may have done things with that girl but everyone’s human :) Atleast he didnt start a war, wasted government money, and damaged international relationships like this Texan idiot did. He should go back to his farm, and so should luka!

I bought that book when it was first released, but I didn’t finish it. I only got about 10% of the way through it (it’s 1000 pages!), but it was very captivating. In my opinion, it is much more interesting than his wife’s book that had come out the previous year.
Overall, I really liked Clinton as President. I mean, sure, I thought he did some stupid things (like bombing an aspirin factory in Africa) and he did too many “Republican” things (namely expand the extremely expensive yet totally worthless “war on drugs”), but as far as foreign policy goes, he was one of the best. He has a knack for negotiations and a real eye for finding unique solutions. Domestically, I was doing so well back then, as was our entire economy. He kept a balanced budget throughout his presidency, and I know that drives the neocons absolutely berzerk. That’s why they had to go digging to find Monica - they couldn’t find anything actually impeachment-worthy over which to impeach him.

“bombing an aspirin factory in Africa” lol I mustve missed that :)
“totally worthless “war on drugs”" dunno if that is actually that worthless… even if it takes $10.000 to have just one person stop using drugs… its worthwile :)

The factory in Sudan referenced in this article turned out to have nothing to do with international terror and was an aspirin factory.
As for the war on drugs, I think one needs to consider priority. Which is more important, making sure that those who are addicted to hard drugs like heroin and crack cocaine get the proper treatment and onto more productive lives, or to make sure all non-violent first-time offenders caught with a smidgeon or marijuana go to prison? Since the 1980s, every president has focused more on the second.

(sorry, I meant “smidgeon OF marijuana”)

I also wonder how he would’ve handled 9/11.
